Before publishing any jobs or education make sure you got all the names and dates right. Double-check the exact name of the institution, the position, start and end dates at a position, etc.
Fill out your profile in English
Even though it can be easier for you to talk about yourself in your mother tongue, think of all the people that could visit your profile. Spell check your text and pay attention to grammar
Needless to say, the first impression really matters! You don’t want to seem sloppy and ignorant and there are many writing apps and platforms that can help you with that.
Virtual networking matters too
Don’t be just a lurker! Follow companies of your interest, like and comment on their posts. It’s a great opportunity to show some interest and knowledge on a relevant topic! And even more important - the enthusiasm.
Be active and keep your profile updated
It’s important for your info to be relevant and up to date. Don’t pile up your student activities and outdated online courses you once took in freshman year, focus on the present and stay present in everyday LinkedIn communication.

Pick a great and authentic photo
A good recruiter with an experienced eye can make a lot of conclusions about a person by the way they choose to present themselves. Neutral backgrounds and some attention to hair and clothes can go a long way. Authenticity can make you stand out from the LinkedIn crowd even more. If you’re not sure what your photo says about you, you can always test it in one of the ‘test your profile picture’ softwares.
Use right keywords and skills
Use right keywords and skills reflecting the right skillset and not all that is trending at the moment. Your skills count as keywords in your LinkedIn profile. Putting a certain word as a skill will make your profile show up when someone searches for it. Think through the skills you would like to state, remove all buzzwords and keep it clear and concise.
Ask for a recommendation, they go a long way
If you wouldn’t go to a hotel or a restaurant without checking its reviews, why would someone hire you without any? Ask your colleague, boss, or the guy you wanted to start a start-up with in college to write you a recommendation. Never ever try to make this stuff up on your own!
